Taking A Look At Criminal Justice Agencies

By Jose Mitchell

Some laws have been put in place in every society, and when someone goes against them, then they are calling for the necessary punitive measures. It is for that reason that this article will look at the types of criminal justice agencies and the role that each has to play in ensuring that the community remains one that is free of crime. All you need to do is to take some time and go through every detail stipulated below for further understanding.

The police service is the one that has officers that you will encounter all the time on the road. The police have the responsibility of ensuring these activities do not happen and in case it takes place, the police are also expected to be the first on site. If something adverse has happened, but the details are not precise, it is them that will have to get everything for people to understand what transpired.

From the evidence that is usually collected by the police, they will present it to the prosecution. Here, all details are looked into for determining whether what has been given before them is admissible in court. The burden of establishing the guilt of the accused always falls on the prosecution. If the police do not provide enough evidence, it implies the case will be weak and therefore the chances of losing are high.

The other unit that must be mentioned is the courts which occupy a very distinctive terrain in the whole system. Their role is in allowing the evidence to be facilitated so that it can be determined whether one is guilty or innocent of some act. For them, they occupy a neutral position where any party be it the prosecutions or accused has a chance of winning the case.

Punishment is usually given to the ones that are found guilty as per the gravity of the offense they will have committed. If an accused know that they are going to lose a case, they will opt to admit their guilt making it easy for the judge or magistrate to make a ruling.

After it has been determined that someone is guilty of some act prohibited by the law, the court will sentence them with different conditions. The punishment that one gets is usually in correlation to what they committed, and that is why you will never see them spend the same time. The expectation is that by the time someone is serving this time, they will change their bad behavior.

Another independent unit in all these proceedings is the probation unit. This department is always there in almost everything from when the case begins to take place to when it ends. Their role is also on seeing that one has been eased and integrated into a society after they have been away in prison for long.

These are some of the agencies that play significant roles, but the truth is that there are many more. In fact, each state will have a different approach that they give it. Learning everything at first might not be so easy and hence the reason why the main ones have been illustrated above.
