How To Improve Buildings Using Canopies

By Patricia Jackson

Man always had the innate ability to build structures. Even as children these are already manifested in drawing and other activities. When at the beach, tiny tots are prone to build sand castles. This natural talent are fully expressed in buildings that we see today. The main proponents of these are architects. To make the structure even more captivating, they add side roofing. One can have this at Architectural canopy manhattan.

In ancient times, humans only utilized the inner sanctum of caves for shelter. They freely roamed the vast forests just like the other creatures that were in it. Food foraging was the main undertaking. During the night they seek the safety and protection of a cave. In a way, we can say that nature just took care of them and their needs to the fullest.

All this changed with the birth of technology. After spending some time on the planet man eventually learned how to fashion tools. Learning how to use the implements elevated its position. The first known tools were those of stones and rocks. These were broken to produced edges that were then used to shear meat from hunted animals.

The tree and its various parts were the first material used by man in erecting a structure called a house. The trunk served as the main support while leaves, twigs, and branches made up the rest. Skins from hunted animals were also utilized to cover the structure. This fundamental structure can be gleaned by looking at shanties, shacks, and huts that we can still see today.

Fast forward many centuries after and man soon began to erect great architectural structures like the pyramids of Egypt, Angkor Wat in Myanmar, Machu Picchu in the Americas, and many more ancient wonders. Move forward a few hundred centuries and we see ancient edifices of the classical times. One can only marvel at the sight of the Coliseum and the Parthenon.

Modern structural engineering and architectural designs probably gained ground during the time of Kings in the middle ages. These very wealthy noblemen sponsored great construction undertakings like the building of castles, churches, and cathedrals. It was also during this period that science and art flourished like it never did before. All these were brought about by technology.

Today in modern times, several materials are utilized to erect a structure. Wood is still used in various parts, mostly for decorative purposes. The main raw materials used now are concrete, steel, and glass. Other synthetic materials are also fabricated and used in canopies or awnings and roof. These open roofed spaces are very conspicuous in commercial districts.

Canopies are architectural designs that usually form part of a building as a projection. This is normally seen shading a sidewalk. It gives protection against rain, snow, and other precipitation and also shields direct sunlight which is glaring. Coffee and eatery shops along the sidewalks use this type of architecture. It usually is open on all sides that are not anchored on the edifice.

A planning permission is needed before a canopy can be installed. This structure can affect the external appearance of the building and therefore is considered an improvement. There are laws that have to be followed like building codes. There are also areas where these are not permitted. Secondary elevation must not also compete with the main structure.
